Iran,also known as Persia,is the 18th largest country in the world in terms of area at 1,648,195 km. Iran has a population of over 77 million. Tehran is the capital and the largest city,serving as the cultural,commercial,and industrial center of the nation.
Iran has a variable climate. Some parts of Iran are dry and semi-dry but some other parts are moderate and mild.
Language and Religion
Iranian official language is Persian (Farsi) which is spoken in different dialects. Most of the Iranians are Muslims with some other religious backgrounds in minority.
Iran enjoys a rich scientific-cultural background. Some of today's sciences are rooted in Iran and have Iranian founders. Iran's name has always been associated with the names of scientists such as Mohammad Ibn - e- Zakaria Razi,Farabi,Kharazmi and Avecinna; so that Avecinna's book,Law,in medicine,is still taught in world's faculties of medicine.
Iran hosts Asia's fourth-largest number of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Naqsh-e Jahan Square,Bam and its cultural landscape,Bisotoun,Pasargadae,Persepolis,Sheikh Safi al-din shrine,Soltaniyeh,Takht-e Soleiman,Tchogha Zanbil and Persian gardens are among the Iranian historical heritage inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List.
Originating in Iran’s ancient history,Nowruz is celebrated by more than 300 million people worldwide on March 21. Nowruz is as one of the oldest and most cherished festivities celebrated for at least 3,000 years.
Nowruz is a messenger of peace,friendship,benevolence for the humankind and admiration for the nature not only for Iranians,but for several nations and tribes. Nowruz is an opportunity for rethinking,restarting and remaking. Nowruz ceremonies are symbolic representations of two ancient concepts - the End and Rebirth. The oldest archaeological record for the Nowruz celebration comes from the Achaemenid period over 2500 years ago.
Dress Code in Iran
Iran is a country with a dress code and respecting Islamic rules including “Hijab” or the Islamic dress-code is a necessity in public. However such rules are not observed strictly,especially for tourists and foreigners.
Basically,the rules are quite simple: for men,no short pants or extreme short sleeve. For women,head,arms,and legs should be covered,and it is also advised to wear something loose to cover the body.
